This year’s challenge is to recognize the potential of the BRIC countries; Brazil, Russia, India and China and their potential for investment. The class of 2010 will research and assert the logic of a portfolio diversification strategy that considers allocations that may include BRIC or other emerging global economies. The solution will include specific products and services for specific investing demographics. Each of the Gateway teams will submit their solution for review by an esteemed panel of experts. The winners will be announced at the 2010 Gateway to Leadership closing ceremonies in New York on August 6th. The winning paper will be posted on the MMI website.

The New York based interns have toured the New York Stock Exchange, courtesy of Legg Mason and ClearBridge Advisors. New York life sponsored a meeting with Madison Square Investors, a New York LIfe Investments boutique firm. The Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation hosted a tour of the DTCC and documentary screening and discussion. Later this summer, students will meet with Eric Sutherland, head of Sales for Allianz Global Investors and meet with Jon Baum, CEO of Dreyfus. They will also tour Grand Central Terminal.

Gateway to Leadership©, a summer internship program that places outstanding students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities in Wall Street’s top firms, has awarded the top prize in its annual financial management case competition to the team which best addressed the need for retirement solutions for small business owners. The winning team was announced at Gateway to Leadership’s closing ceremony in Washington D.C., which culminated the 10-week internship program. According to the Census Bureau and the Small Business Administration, there are approximately 60 million self-employed Americans in the U.S.
